Our volunteers receive a great deal of personal fulfillment from their work with us. And on top of all that, it's a lot of fun!!

Q: How can YOU help?

A: Just about any way you can think of!

Whether you just have a few hours of time and a big heart to give or whether you have some special talent that you believe could help us in our efforts to save the animals, we need YOU.

We are always in need of dedicated volunteers to help in many different areas and programs. If you are interested in volunteering for any of these opportunities, please plan to attend our next New Volunteer Orientation Meeting. These meetings generally take place the last Thursday of each month at 6:00pm at the New Albany Animal Shelter which is located at 215 West Market Street. The meeting usually lasts about an hour. To verify the date and time of the next meeting, please contact our office at 949-9099. All volunteers under 16 years of age must have a parent or guardian with them at the meeting and while volunteering for FCARL.

Annual Yard Sale (Location is the big green barn at the Floyd County 4H Fairgrounds). We are currently seeking volunteers to help with set up, pricing items and accepting donations on Friday, June 20, 2008 from Noon - 8:00pm. If you have a truck and are able to help pick up large donation items, please let us know! We are also in need of volunteers on the day of the yard sale for the following shifts: 7:30am - 11:30am and 11:30am - 3:30pm. This is a very fun event to work! If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contact our office right away at 949-9099, or nafcarl@covad.net. Not able to volunteer? You can also help to make this event a success by dropping off donations on Friday, June 20th from Noon - 7pm. If you are able to have these donations priced, that's even better! But if you don't have time to price your items, don't worry - we can price them on Friday. We are also in need of tables for this event. If you have a long folding table that we can borrow for this event, please let us know!! We hope everyone can come out and shop our bargain priced items at this event!!

Applebee's Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser Applebee's on Grant Line Road in New Albany has graciously offered to host a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser for FCARL on Saturday, August 2nd from 8:00am - 10:00am. Customers at this event will enjoy all-you-can-eat pancakes, coffee & juice for $5, $4 of which will be donated to FCARL. We need volunteers to act as servers at this event! If you have a couple of hours that you can spare helping us serve our customers, please contact our office at 812-949-9099 or by email at nafcarl@covad.net.

Saturday Cat Care (At the New Albany Animal Shelter). Volunteers in this area assist staff with cleaning the cat cages, dumping and refilling the litter boxes, and feeding & watering the cats. This is a commitment of 2 hours (from 9:00am - 11:00am) one Saturday a month.

Feeders Supply Cat Care (At Feeders Supply on Grant Line Road in New Albany). Involves cleaning the cat cage and litter boxes, providing fresh water and food, and giving the cats much needed attention and TLC. This program requires the same shift every week.

Foster Care Dogs and cats from the New Albany Animal Shelter will need foster homes from time to time to heal from medical procedures, await transfer to another rescue, socialization, or a variety of other reasons. Most foster stays will be relatively short but are very important to the welfare of the animals. We need foster parents! No special skills required- just a love of animals and ability to provide day to day care. We will host a training class to prepare you and answer questions. Do you have room in your heart and home to provide short term care for a dog or cat in need? If the answer is yes, please send an email with your name, contact information and what type of animal(s) you can foster to Sandy Payne, FCARL foster coordinator @ sandyfcarl@yahoo.com or call Sandy at 502-380-6705.

Transportation Involves getting animals from either the shelter or foster homes to the rescue group at a meeting place. Transports are usually anywhere from 100 - 350 miles round trip, traveling in any direction. An email is sent (from the BR coordinator) to all the transport volunteers with the information (date, place, etc) to see who is available.

Offsite Adoption (Not at the shelter). Involves going to various locations and having adoptable shelter animals there for the public to see and adopt. Here is a list of the upcoming events for which we will need volunteers:

Volunteers for this program help with early morning registration during our once a month cat spay/neuter program, and also during the evening hours when customers come back to pick their cats up.
