Welcome to the online home of the Floyd County Animal Rescue
League. If you want to know what we're about, just take a look at the
faces on this page and all the others in this site - they are all animals who at one
time or another have passed through the New Albany Animal Shelter. They
weren't incidents or breeds or numbers to us - they had names and personalities.
They never asked to be born. They only asked to be loved. Yet each year,
nearly 3,000 of them arrive at the shelter as a result of human ignorance,
abuse, or neglect. Our work, and this site, are for them. |

We need your aluminum cans
link to this article | e-mail this article
FCARL collects aluminum cans to help pay for shelter medical expenses, offsite adopt-a-thons, special adoption promotions, entry of animals into the breed rescue program, spay/neuter programs, and improved pet care education.
As there is no curbside pickup for recycling in parts of Floyd County, perhaps you are throwing away aluminum cans that could be turned in for cash, It doesn't sound like recycling aluminum could amount to much but for 2007, this program generated $2061 and in January, 2008, it generated $571 for FCARL.
You can donate your cans at the New Albany Floyd County Animal Shelter at 215 West Market by placing your bagged cans next to the large trailer bin that's filled with cans on the side of the building. The cans are rounded up daily and put in the trailer bin. Please help our cause in this win-win situation. It's food for the environment and good for the community's animals!

In Memory of a Loved One

Would you like a way to permanently memorialize a pet or pet lover? One great way to do this is by purchasing an inscribed leaf or rock for the memorial tree now gracing the lobby of the New Albany Floyd County Animal Control & Shelter building. By purchasing an inscription on a memorial rock or leaf you can keep the fond memories of your pet or your pet-loving people alive and remember them for the love they have brought to your life. Proceeds from the Memorial Tree benefit FCARL. For specific details please call 949-9099, or email our office at nafcarl@covad.net. Or feel free to stop by the shelter to view the Memorial Tree and pick up an order form, which is located in a holder next to the tree.

Going Krogering?

Kroger has a program that allows people to donate to the Rescue League painlessly.
For $5 you can buy a rechargeable Kroger card from us that is worth $5 when you receive it. Every time you use your card to pay for your groceries, Kroger will donate 4% of whatever is spent with the cards to the Rescue League. All you have to do is charge up the card at the service counter or in the check out lane before you buy your groceries with any amount you wish and use the card to pay for your groceries. Last year Kroger donated almost $1,500 to the League, money that is desperately needed to provide medicine for shelter animals and spay neuter assistance.
For the League to benefit, you must purchase your cards directly from us. Please call 949-9099 or write us at PO Box 285, New Albany, IN 47151-0285.

Feline Fix Tuesday, May 20th
link to this article | e-mail this article
Our next low-cost cat spay/neuter clinic will be held Tuesday, May 20th. At this event, your cat can receive spaying/neutering, rabies shot, and 1st infectious disease shot for only $40. We will fix cats that are in heat or pregnant, nursing (bring kittens), over 6 weeks of age, and feral (wild - these cats must be brought in traps, NOT carriers!). We WILL NOT fix a cat that the veterinarian thinks is sick. If you would like to register your cat for the Feline Fix, or to find out more information, please contact 949-9099.
Kittens can and do get pregnant at 4 months old! In 7 years, one female cat and its young can produce 420,000 kittens. Almost 8,000,000 dogs and cats are euthanized each year because there are no homes for them. Please help us reduce the number of unwanted animals in Southern Indiana by having your pet spayed or neutered!
