Bear finds a loving home!

We are very pleased to share with you that Bear, a tortoiseshell cat who was adopted from the New Albany Animal Shelter, is living happily ever after with her new family. She spends her time in the sunroom of her new home “watching birds, chipmunks, and neighbor animals, laying in the sun, playing with her toys, catnapping and just enjoying life-just as we want her to do” says her new owner.
Bear had been at the shelter for almost a year, spending some of that time at Feeders Supply, before being adopted. As you can see from the picture below, she is truly enjoying her new life!

Inkspot finds a home!

Hi, my name is Inkspot. I was recently lucky enough to find my forever home with a family who thinks I am a “true gem” and “such a handsome fellow”. I have other cats in my family to play with, too. I have made myself right at home!
Before I was adopted, I was a shelter cat that stayed at Feeders Supply on Grant Line Road in New Albany. Here, FCARL volunteers cleaned my cage, fed and watered me, and took time to interact with me daily. Being at Feeders Supply gave me a better opportunity to be seen and adopted!

Information about Adopting from the New Albany Animal Shelter

There are a few ways to adopt a New Albany Floyd County Shelter animal.

You can always visit the shelter. They have a great selection of adult animals as well as kittens and puppies; sometimes even purebreds. Don’t be discouraged if you visit the shelter and there isn’t an animal of the breed or type you want; shelters receive new animals every day.

On a regular basis we have off-site adoptions at various locations and these locations and dates are usually advertised. Last year, between the New Albany Floyd County Shelter and FCARL’s off-sites adoptions, there were over 150 animals that found their new families. Some of them got adopted right then and there. Others were adopted when the family went to the shelter later and adopted them. These are held outside, so sometime in the Spring is when you’ll hear about the first one for this year.

Adoptable cats are always at Feeders on Grant Line Road in New Albany. Last year at Feeders there were 29 cats adopted. This program is made possible by very dedicated volunteers. Each volunteer covers a shift once a week to clean the cages, provide fresh food & water, and give the cats lots of TLC and play time. It is a very rewarding position because when the cats get adopted you will know that volunteers like yourself have helped to make that adoption happen.

Having the off-sites and keeping cats at Feeders gives them more exposure to help them get adopted. These programs are about the connection that you see people make with the animals and the idea that animals will be going to a wonderful place they can call home and be loved and cared for as a member of the family. That’s what makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
